Some years ago there is no server with special features for schools available. But this time is over now: many different schoolservers are out there and wating to come into operation. A good time for teachers and their students - but the problem is: all these schoolservers have many differences and aren't very compatible to each other.
So the main objective of this side is:

show the differences between the schoolserver projects and give the user help to choose the right one for their objectives
bring the developers together and give them a "neutral" plattform of communication
report the latest news about the projects
show dates where users can meet the developers on meetings or fairs
provide additional informations and downloads which are independent of a special project

End of Support für den SUSE Schulserver

Ab dem 30.November 2007 stellt Novell offiziell den Support für den SUSE School Server Version 1.0 (SLSS) ein. In den 5 Jahre nach dem Release des Produkts wurden insgesammt 2124(!) Pakete aktualisiert - viele davon kritische Sicherheitsupdates.

Kunden, die noch einen SUSE School Server besitzen empfielt die Firma Extis auf den von ihr vertriebenen Openschoolserver (OSS) umzusteigen. Der OSS enthält spezielle Skripte, um die Nutzerdaten des SUSE School Server inkl. deren Passwörter auf den OSS zu migrieren. Eine entsprechende Schritt-für-Schritt Anleitung erleichtert das Verfahren.

Security Updates für den SLSS

Mit Security Updates für PHP4, Samba, Python, libpng, cups, Mozilla, gd, freetype2 und libexif sind erneut wichtige Patches für den SLSS erschienen. Insbesondere das PHP4 und Samba Update sei allen SLSS-Besitzern wärmstens ans Herz gelegt, da hier "Remote-Ausnutzbare" Sicherheitslücken behoben werden.

Die Updates können wie immer direkt über YOU eingespielt werden. Ein Neustart ist danach nicht erforderlich.
